Correct Answer: 38 : 21
Solution : Given ratio = 1 : 3 Let the weight of alloy X be 100 kg and the weight of alloy Y be 300 kg. Weight of copper in alloy X = 70% of 100 = 70 kg Weight of zinc in alloy X = 30% of 100 = 30 kg Weight of copper in alloy Y = 40% of 300 = 120 kg Weight of zinc in alloy Y = 25% of 300 = 75 kg Share of copper in new alloy = $\frac{70+120}{100+300}$ = $\frac{190}{400}$ Share of zinc in new alloy = $\frac{30+75}{100+300}$ = $\frac{105}{400}$ Required ratio =$\frac{190}{400}:\frac{105}{400}$ = 190 : 105 = 38 : 21 Hence, the correct answer is 38 : 21.
