See, what I can see from my past experience is that few people do really good after dropping but at the same time many fail to even make up to the previous year rank. This happens because a state of saturation comes after prolonged study. If you have that spark remaining to turn world up side down, go for drop. else you can join any old IITs. Always remember in IITs there is a chance of branch change in first year, many students upgrade their branch from lowest to CSE. In IITR metallurgy students are famous for this. always 1 or 2 are able to upgrade to CSE, and many in other top branches. Thank you!

If you really want to work hard an year go into a top IIT with a new/lower department and word hard for a department change.  This a secure way to go ahead. Department change is tough but the fact is people do. And it's tougher to improve your rank by 6k in an year.

There are 3 options:
1. Take Branches like Biotechnology or other un prefered branches in older IITs and aim for a branch change(moderately difficult)
2. Take a new IIT. Aim for a branch change.(Moderate)
3. Go for a drop. This is the most difficult case. You will need a lot of motivation to stay on track. Also you will have to face the society. If you are sure that you can conquer these, then go for it.

U may repeat ,do more hard work ,the rank you get only depends on you ....u may choose a new iit if u r not sure of yourself to get a better rank next year

another option is go for a comparatively inferior branch in old IITs and do hard work their for branch change

Don't Repeat and this is like a gambling and no standard for Prediction. Go with NIT or New IIT.My son also repeated but due to this advance result we are very much upset.Think  twice before taking decision.
