The difference is very easy to get , if you choose B.A. you have have variety of subjects like sociology , geography or English , whereas Hons. Degree is under graduation from a single subject like B.A. hons. (Geography) , here geography is the main core subjects and you can choose few generic/optional subject if needed.

The core difference between BA(General) and BA(Hons) is that there is no specialization offered in case of former course, while the latter offers in-depth study, for instance if you pursue BA(Hons) you will study Economics in much detailed manner, and this is beneficial in case you want to go ahead with a career in academia, you can go for master's degree and appear for UGC NET to pursue PhD or for lectureship, for teaching in school level BEd or any other teacher training program that's recognized by NCTE is important, and Hons in any discipline whether it's science, arts or commerce hold comparatively greater value.

Considering the differences between the two streams of B A and B A honours, there is not much difference in terms of time period because both these degrees are course of 3 year duration.

However, BA honours is a specialisation course where as BA is a basic graduation program which does not specialises in any particular aspect or specialisation.
