yes, Sanskrit is compulsory subject in BAMS first year as separately.
For BAMS first year there are 5 subject actually they 7( two subject are in modern and ayurved form so 7).
1. Sanskrit
2. Padarth vidnyan
3. Astanghriday Sutrasthan
4. Kriaya Shaarir (5. Physiology,
as modern)
6. Rachana Shaarir (7. Anatomy, as modern)
Sanskrit is compulsory subject only for first year, but still there are shloka's which is written in Sanskrit that you have to learn from first to last year in other subject.
Don't afraid of it .
It's easy if you divide to do it curiously.
