Hello,

Both the fields are good in their own way, Eco(Hons) is more of a specialized stream while BCom(Hons) is combination of varied subjects such as accountancy, law, finance, economics, management etc.

The scope of Eco(Hons) is restricted to core economics and its allied fields, on the other hand BCom(Hons) offers a candidates much wider scope as this field caters to various domains and it offers students flexibility to choose amongst CS, CMA, CA, CFA after graduation. Even in private sector from audit companies to private sector, BCom Graduates find aplenty of opportunities here.
In case of Eco(Hons), the best option shall be to pursue higher studies whether it's Masters or MBA as this will broaden prospects career wise.

Economics Gradute can appear for Indian Economic Service, this is one of the most reputed government exams in their relative field.
Apart from this, opportunities are in Ministry of Economics Affairs, National Sample Survey, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy,

However, when it comes to job opportunities in government sector both the academic degree are fit for UPSC, Banking/Insurance, SSC CGL/CPO, CDS OTA/Army(only in case of males), state PSCs, RRB or any other government organizations based on the eligibility of graduation.

Eventually, it's all about your choice, for instance if you're interested towards finance, accounting, insurance ,law then go for BCom(Hons), on the other hand if you're inclined towards management, finance, statistics, choose Eco(Hons)

Hey Sandhya,

B.Com (Hons.) is a job oriented programme and is ideal for students who want to gain work experience in business-oriented organisations after their graduation. With its business and management approach, the programme has a great scope in the management sector as well. From audit companies to big corporate houses, all firms require commerce graduates with a good understanding of taxation, accounting and management. The salary after completing this programme can vary from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 45,000 per month.

Economics (Hons.) has gained a lot of popularity amongst recruiters lately. After completing graduation, students have a lot of opportunities in the banking sector, financial consultancies, economic institutions, etc. However, the best path would be to pursue post-graduation i.e. M.A. in Economics or an MBA in Finance. MBA enables economics aspirants to get high-paying jobs in the financial sector. After completing Economics (Hons.) you can expect your starting salary to vary from Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 45,000 per month, depending on the university you have graduated from.
