1. University of Delhi, New Delhi- Colleges like St. Stephen’s college, HansRaj college, Lady Shri Ram College, Hindu College and so on are one of the top colleges for pursuing English literature. DU has the hardworking professors, quality education, library resources, interactive events and of course the brand name. Admission for ENGLISH HONOURS will be based on an entrance exam, details of which are available on the DU website.
   
2. Jawaharlal University (JNU), New Delhi- JNU have one of the best English departments of the country. They are known for combining the subject with other domains such as history, political science, sociology and so on so as to get a broader perspective in understanding the literature. If you are interested in a holistic learning of literature, this is the place to be.
3. CHRIST University, Bengaluru- Christ is known for an excellent study atmosphere and great campusl life. I can vouch for the expertise in the English Department as most professors are from the universities i am mentioning in this list. English too, has an entrance test and personal interview in this college.
4. Hyderabad University, Hyderabad- The University lays a foundation for a student who wishes to carry out research further. The professors train you in research skills, critical thinking, analytical thinking and help you carry out research in traditional as well as current areas of English studies. It is known to be one of the best in the country
5. Jadavpur University, Calcutta- The Department of English, Jadavpur University has always received a lot of student applications because of it’s legacy.
