It is not later entry but "Lateral Entry". Lateral entry is a kind of admission in which students join not from the 1st year, but from 2nd year of B.Tech or any other course. Not all can get lateral entry. In order to join through lateral entry, the candidate must have completed diploma or other equivalent degree like B.Sc. This happens if a candidate first chooses diploma course and then wish to do B.E or B.tech. Different institutions have different criteria to select candidates for lateral entry. Some institutions keep an entrance exam whereas others can give admission based on grades scored in diploma or previous course. For more information, refer to the article below:

B.Tech lateral entry is the direct entry of an applicant into the second year of engineering (third semester), after completing diploma in engineering or B.Sc in Physics or Mathematics. Those who are accepted do not have to study the first year (or first two semesters) of B.Tech and will be eligible for direct admissions. The course duration is six semesters (3 years)

Btech lateral entry or adddmission means that directly addmission to the next year ...or meand the addmision in midway of the course..

As you are a Btech student. .so if get addmision directly to 2nd year in another college.  So that will be known as lateral entry ...

• B. Tech. Lateral Entry Program is an innovative program, in which students who have completed a 3-year Diploma in Engineering or B.Sc. degree or equivalent examination with at least 50% marks can take admission.
• The students can get admission directly in the second year or the third semester of the engineering Course.
