In the majority of private colleges and state universities in India, NEET is not compulsory for this course. Admissions depend on:

• Merit-based selection: Your Class 12 percentage in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB). Most colleges require a minimum of 50–60% aggregate.

• University Entrance Exams: Many top-tier institutes conduct their own tests (e.g., MET for Manipal, AEEL for some private academies).

The New Regulation

The National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) has recently issued guidelines to standardise admissions.

• Gradual Implementation: Some states and central institutions have started making NEET qualification a mandatory "eligibility criterion" starting from the 2026-27 academic session.

• What this means: You may not need a "high rank" in NEET like MBBS students, but you might be required to simply appear or qualify (meet the minimum percentile) to be eligible for counselling in specific government-affiliated colleges.
