Hi

Yes you can get admission in IIT even if you have passed as private candidate i. e you failed to qualify for 12th in the first attempt and then reappeared for 12th exam again as private  candidate and then you qualified .

Actually, what matters is that you have finally passed your 12th.

Now that,
You want to get admission in IIT for btech, here's how you can get into IIT :-

Admission in IIT is on the basis of JEE advanced examination.

To be eligible for JEE advanced you need to clear JEE Mains examination first.

So for getting admission in IIT or joining IITs you need to clear JEE main first and then JEE advanced , the eligibility criteria for both the examination is given below:-

JEE MAINS

Eligibility criteria says that to be eligible for JEE mains 2021 for BE or Btech you just must be either appearing for 12th board exam or equivalent in 2021 or should have passed it in 2020 or 2019 with Physics, mathematics and anyone of Chemistry or Biology or Biotechnology or Technical Vocational Subject.

One can give JEE Mains entrance  examination  for a maximum of  3 consecutive years  starting from the year of appearing for 12th board examination for the first time.

JEE ADVANCED

JEE advanced 2021 eligibility criteria says that you must have appeared for your class 12th board examination for the first time in the year 2021 or 2020 and also must have qualified JEE mains 2021. The minimum percentage barrier of 75 % in 12th for general/ews/obc or 65 % in case of sc/st is not applicable for the year 2021,it has been lifted off for this year.

One is eligible for JEE advanced examination for a maximum of  two consecutive years starting from the year of appearing for 12th board examinationfor the first time.

If you manage to qualify JEE advanced then you can get admission in IIT on the basis of rank obtained by you in jee advanced examination by participating in jossa counselling

Hi Deepak

can you help me with the year in which appeared for your 12th exam , so that I can help you in a better way because, your eligibility for jee advanced largely depends on it.
for example, if you gave 12th in 2019 but failed in it and then passed it in 2020 then you won't be eligible for jee advanced 2021.
But if you gave 12th in 2020 and failed and then passed it in 2021 or appearing for 12th again as private candidate in 2021 boards then you are eligible for jee advanced 2021.
