Aspirants are eligible to pursue a PhD course only if they have completed their master's degree in a similar course/ field/ stream in which they want to pursue a PhD. You sure can do PhD in English. After clearing your masters you are eligible to pursue your PhD in English Literature, all you've to do is give the entrance exam and go through all the basic formalities. Those candidates who have completed masters degree with above 55% marks from a recognized university.
