Radhika, there are approximately more than 270 Government Medical College in India and approximately more than 40,000 MBBS seats are available in these GMCs. And 15% of these seats are filled through All India Counselling and the remaining 85% are filled through State Counselling. And with a rank of 5000, irrespective of your Category, you can get a seat in a Government Medical College. An All India Rank of 5000 roughly translates to a score more than 575. With this rank, you have decent chances for a seat in a GMC. Now you haven't mentioned the State you belong to but yes you do have decent chances. What we need to remind you is that cut offs change every year. Cut offs change every year depending on various factors such as no.of Candidates appearing for the exam, no.of Candidates qualified, top NEET score and difficulty of the exam.
