Yes, you can get a good government college if you pass your compartment exam, but you need to satisfy  the minimum requirement of board marks, for example : for getting nits, iiits, gftis you need to get a minimum percentage of 75 if you are from general or obc caste and if you are sc/st you need a minimum percentage of 65.
