see after completing diploma in mechanical engineering , you are eligible to join b.tech courses of three years by lateral  entry admission process in

mechanical engineering

production engineering

metallurgy and material science engineering

automobile engineering

there is many stat level entrance test for lateral entry like jelet, upsee lateral entry etc. however in nits and iits there is no admission process for lateral entry for diploma degree holders.
