Thw leaving certificate of lower class is always kept by the authority of the higher class for documentation purpose.

For example,like leaving of 10th is kept by college . Leaving of college is kept by university.

if you want to your 10th leaving certificate back for some time then you have to write a letter to the authority asking for certificate and also you have to mention the reason.

maybe they will give you the certificate back for sometime or definitely they can give you the xerox of your leaving certificate.

This issue depends entirely on the college itself.
Many do allow, whereas most of them have a strict rules of not giving back the documents untill the completion of the course.
You can write an application to the principal addressing your worry and request him/her to do the needful.
As far as most of the colleges are concerned, they might allow you to take a Scanned copy of the certificate but the original one is hardly handed over.
