As companies hire a full time content writer more often then giving out their projects to a freelancer.

Also environment is an excellent niche to start your own blog. At initial stages this might not fetch you money but once the blog flourishes you will have a good earning.

yes you can for sure take environment as your niche for content writing. you must have knowledge about the same , as many people who choose this niche are experts in the subject , like they may have done bachelors or some course in environmental sciences too. so, you kust have good knowledge about the same. freelancing in this niche , or any niche , can pay you well, if you are consistent and determined and write  good and informational content. it would take time , content writing pieces dont get immediate fame , but you need to be consistent , then you will also be paid well.
