Yes, you can wear one as there is no dress code assigned to anyone by the authorities. There isn't any dress code as of now but what I think is that people shouldn't wear night suits also like you mentioned caps during such exams. Night suits likewise caps doesn't justify professionalism in any sense and wearing formals may suggest a little of the professionalism. The advisory dress code for male students is full sleeves shirts and trousers.

For female students, it is sarees/salwar kurta/suit. Here's the crucial part — while appearing before Appellate Authority, you may also wear formals!
