Hello,
Percentile is the percentage of students who scored less or same marks than you. The marks scored in JEE Main are normalized to equalize the difficulty level of the exam in different sessions. 100 percentile does not necessarily mean 300 marks. Suppose a candidate who appeared in your session scored 250 marks and it is the highest mark scored in that session then it is marked as percentile 100. Then the next percentage of candidates who score less than 250 marks will be given a percentile based on their over all score and individual score in each subject. The percentile scores are calculated up to 7 decimal places so that bunching effect and ties will be reduced. If two or more candidates score same marks than tie breaker guidelines will be incorporated and it is as follows
Candidates scoring higher percentile in Mathematics will be given higher priority
Candidates scoring higher percentile in Physics will be given the higher rank
Candidates scoring higher percentile in Chemistry will get the higher rank
Preferences is given to who are older in age
So percentile vs marks is never constant, it will change with the number of candidates appeared, number of candidates appeared in a particular session, highest score in that session etc.
