You can definitely survive even if you don't know Kannada. The people there are well-accustomed with the Hindi language, and some are well familiar with English too. You need not worry about that. But, you should at least learn the basic Kannada language once you get there, because people there approach to talk mostly in Kannada language. It will help you survive and talk to or be friends with people there.
