In a nutshell, MEC and CEC are excellent courses to take if you want to prepare for your UPSC & IAS exams. Not only will you learn about optional subjects like economics and commerce, but you'll also have plenty of free time during your degree that you can use to study for the UPSC and have a backup plan.
