With a JEE Mains percentile of 49 and board score of 700, getting admission in top Tamil Nadu colleges through JEE may be difficult. However, you can try government engineering colleges through TNEA counselling (based on 12th marks) instead of JEE. Some private colleges may also accept your score. Focus on applying to colleges like Anna University’s affiliated colleges or other private engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu where cutoff is lower. Improving your score can help get better options next time.

Hello there,

With a JEE Mains percentile of around 49 and a board score of 700, admission to engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu is possible, mainly in private or self-financed colleges.

Government colleges usually require higher percentiles, but some private colleges may accept these scores.

Y ou can consider:

  • Private engineering colleges affiliated with Anna University

  • Self-financed institutions with lower cutoff criteria

Admission depends on availability, category, and counseling rounds. It is advisable to check the official Tamil Nadu engineering counseling website for the updated list of colleges and cutoff marks.

I would recommend you to use the JEE Mains College Predictor Tool by Careers360 to get the list of possible colleges you can get with your rank/percentile.

With 49 percentile in JEE Mains and 700 board marks, you likely won’t get top government colleges in Tamil Nadu.

  • Try TNEA counselling based on board marks.

  • Look for private colleges or management quota seats.
