Dear Aishwarya,
AIIMS conducts national level entrance exam for MBBS course for its fifteen institutes spread across India. AIIMS is one of the most sought after medical college due to its reputation, low fee structure since it is government aided medical college and has a total of 1,207 MBBS seats. Every year almost 3 Lakh students take the exam. The level of difficulty is more than NEET.
The registration process occurs in the last week of February (keep in mind regarding code generation) and the exam usually takes place in the last week of May. The duration of the exam is 3 hours and 30 minutes. The question paper has 200 MCQ's from the science section: physics, chemistry, biology, and two additional sections- GK and logical thinking. The paper is available in English or Hindi medium, based on the choice the examinee made.
For every correct answer, 1 mark will be allocated and for every incorrect answer 1/3 mark is deducted and no mark for unattempted questions. The cut off for general category students is 50% but that doesn't mean you will get a seat if you score 50% (100 marks). It is all relative, how other people perform and how difficult the question paper was because that decides on the rank and percentile. For the year 2018, the cut off percentile was 99.579 which translates to 1600 rank at which a general category student secured a seat at an AIIMS college.
I wish you all the best for future endeavors.
