hi there,

It is a political institute, acting as cabinet of the village. The Gram Sabha work as the general body of the Gram Panchayat . The members of the Gram Panchayat are elected by the Gram Sabha. There are about 250,000 Gram Panchayats in India.

The composition of Gram Sabha is the general body consisting of all the voters residing in the jurisdiction of a Gram Panchayat which extends over one village or a group of villages . Every man and woman who is the resident of the village concerned and is above 18 years of age, is a member of the Gram Sabha.

What is the composition of the Gram Panchayat?

The composition of Gram Panchayat shall consist of the Pradhan and such number of directly elected members as may be notified from time to time by the State Government and one member for every 350 population or part thereof of the Panchayat area shall be elected as a member of such Panchayat.
