Hi Bhat,

AXIS:

It is said to be an imaginary line along which a body rotates.

A fan rotates around it's axis.

AXIS OF ROTATION:

It is a straight line through all fixed points of a rotating rigid body around which all other points of the body move in circles.

It can lie outside a body too.
