IITs and NITs are both national institutes of importance and provide Btech and Mtech courses in various stream of engineering.

IITs are more advanced then the NITs as they have better infrastructure, better faculties and better alumni networks. Admission into IITs is through JEE advanced exam.

NITs are also very reputed colleges for engineering courses in India. They are just behind the IITs and also have same facilities like IITs. Admission in NITs is through JEE main.

Both of them may not become equal at any point of time as the level of students IITs possess is no doubt better than NITs. NITs also have a very good students but that is always the second choice of students in India.One would like to go to an NIT if he didn't get an admission in good IIT. Also, the level of studies in IIT's is far more wider and higher level when compared to an NIT. The faculty in IITs is better than an NIT. They are more experienced.

there are some basic differences between IIT and NIT

1. IIT stands for indian institute of technology whereas NIT stands for national institute of technology

2. IIT give admission when you have cleared both JEE mains and advance xeam where to those students who have cleared only JEE mains but not advance or for those you are only interested in giving JEE mains and cleared can get admission in NIT

3. no doubt IITs are more superior and fancy then NIT in terms of academics,hostel ,extra curricular, sports culture and in many more too

4. but the newly opened IITs may not have that much fame as that reputed IITs or NITs do have
