Spermatogenesis and Oogenesis are the biological processes that involves the production and formation of male and female gametes respectively.

During spermatogenesis germ cells mature into active, functional male gametes called sperms and it takes around 70-74 days for the complete process . The development of sperms occurs in male genitilia called testes. In spermatogenesis, the sperms undergo both mitotic and meiotic divisions to produce type A and type B spermatocytes respectively. Type B cells are haploid in nature. 4 gametes are produced from each meiotic division.

Oogenesis begins during the feotus stage of embryo. The immature follicles are formed which then start maturing when the baby is born. By the time of puberty the follicles matures to form female egg called ovum, which marks the begining of menstrual cycle. In oogenesis each meiotic division results in only one oocyte . The development of female gametes begins in ovaries and the development usually completes in oviducts or fallopian tubes.
