Question : Directions: Three statements are given followed by two conclusions numbered I and II. Assuming the statements to be true, even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the conclusions logically follow(s) from the statements.
Statements:
Some if are but.
All but are so.
No so is a then.
Conclusions:
I. All if being then is a possibility.
II. All then being if is a possibility.

Correct Answer: Only conclusion II follows

Solution : The possible Venn diagram according to the given statements is as follows –

Let's analyse the conclusions –
Conclusion (I): All if being then is a possibility – From the Venn diagram, it is evident that some if are but and all but are so. Since no so is then so the part of if which are so can never be then. Thus, this conclusion does not follow.
Conclusion (II): All then being if is a possibility – It is a possibility that the circle representing then is completely overlapped by the circle representing if. But this is not definite. Thus, this conclusion follows.

So, the only conclusion II follows. Hence, the first option is correct.
