For admission to the MCA program in NIT Trichy, the eligibility is as follows:

• B.Tech/BE/BCA/B.Sc/B.IT or an equivalent degree from a recognised university.
• The candidate should have a CGPA of 6.5 or 60% in graduation (For SC/ST) category it is 55% or 6.0 CGPA)
• The candidate should have a valid NIMCET rank.

Based on the NIMCET rank you will be called for counselling. If you fulfill the cut-off for this particular college, then you will be allotted a seat.

Therefore to answer your question,

No, NIT Trichy does not ask for 75%+ marks in 12th Std. You require a good CGPA in graduation and a good NIMCET rank.

No,  University only checks the marks or percentage obtained in graduation for the same. According to the official website of NIT Trichy, Candidates, with 60% marks (6.5/10 CGPA) in Bachelor’s degree of Full Time 3 years duration from a recognized University with Mathematics / Statistics / Business Maths. as one of the subjects in any one semester/year, For SC/ST candidates the percentage of marks required is 55%(6.0/10 CGPA). Those candidates who are appearing for the qualifying examinations are also eligible to appear for the NIMCET test. However, they will have to furnish proof of having passed in the qualifying examination, with 60% marks, at the time of counselling / admission. Indian Nationals only are eligible to appear for the NIMCET.

Yes kind of Apparently most of college placement follow this, if you have 1st class career, then you'll be allowed to sit in any company that visits your campus.. if not you will be allowed in some other but not in all. So it is not a hard and fast rule on paper but it certainly helps you get an edge over others .
