Dear aspirant,

Carbocation is a species which is formed when a carbon atom breaks one of the four bonds to aquire positive charge. The different carbocations are named on the basis of the number of carbon groups bonded to the carbon i.e methyl, primary, secondary and tertiary.

Stablity of a carbocation is determined by the effects of hyperconjugation and resonance. Hyperconjugation refers to the effect when an electron donating group is attached to a carbocation. Better is the donating group, more is the stability of carbocation. While resonance is an effect that occurs when  certain molecules or polyatomic ions cannot be expressed by a single Lewis formula. More number of resonating structures better is the stability.

Hope it helps you!!
