Product engineering will be good option. Manufacturing is same as production engineering. First check for the option in which branch you are selected and how.

As per your query.you want to know about the appropriate branch to give a gate .both mechanical and production branch has a same oppurtanity in psu.you have to score min500 rank in gate. iocl,ongc,bpcl or many mini ratna company offering a job after scoring a good rank in gate.

Both show a good response if you see the track record and both are capable to give good placement and if you compare to each other in that case in your place I choose production because they give good placement as well as they also get the good package and some good companies also come to the campus.
