One can start preparing for GATE in August and can score a good rank but you need a continous hard work to achieve this. And for preparation, if your basic concepts of B,Tech are good then you can get a good rank just by self study. You can also get help from videos on youtube.

So,both are good in their way bt thing is in which u r suitable u can opt that but personally I would like to suggest coaching will be the best option as physical classes are more informative and u will do ur study seriously and for online which u r having doubt u can clear in online mode like u can watch video lecture or u can join free online classes.

So,It's total upto u. Decide wisely!
