JEE is not really required for becoming a nuclear scientist but you need to get into a good college to get a good education, but you can also depend upon your self study for it. You either need to become an engineer first or else you can also take graduation with physics and mathematics.
Then you have to clear the BARC examination to become a nuclear scientist.
