If your JEE MAINS all india rank is 40600 then getting a seat in HBTU Kanpur is very tough as the cutoff stays very high. According to last year trends the cutoff for lowest branch in HBTU was much under 25,000. Your home state quota may help you upto an extent but you may get lower branch only.
