With the rise in the competition the value of college from where you are pursuing your degree matters a lot. The key reason for doing post graduation is to have better job with better salary. So if you look at the number of placements and the avg package received by students from reputed clg like IIM's for MBA is far better than the local colleges.

As you know India has a trend of on campus placements so companies prefer to go to reputed colleges than local and offer a better profile with a better package which gives you a kick start in your career.

The knowledge you gain even from local college will definitely help you in a long run because later your position will depend on your performance but in this high competitive world it's always an advantage to have a kick start through reputed college.

Also after doing post graduation especially in management your networking is very essential in long run which could be very well developed by studying in reputed colleges like IIM' s by interacting with Alumnus.

If you want to know more you can reply back to me I can show you through official statistics what's the difference between a student from a reputed college and local college initially after post graduation.

Partially correct. Its not always about higher reputation but also your performance in those 2 years whether in academics or in extra activities in that duration.

Nowadays there are many local colleges for management open with easy admission  process but them do they provide value of studies and do they have good placement records or tie ups?

So before joining any institute is is your responsibility to check the complete details about the college and then take the next step.

If you are able to get in top colleges like IIM's then good enough or else there are many private options available too.

You can check the list of top MBA colleges in India below:

Good luck!!

Well to answer this question we can look at a number of motivations due to which students pursue higher studies.

Firstly, of course for higher salaries and better jobs. Your qualification has a direct correlation with the kind of jobs you get and the kind of salaries. In this regard a top institution will have a clear edge. The salaries are higher in the top institutions and also there are more number of companies and better ones. The opportunity that you have in these institutions is immense. There are some competitions by companies that open only in the top colleges. However there is a catch. In a top institute there are more number of students with great profiles. An average profile in a top institute might not even be shortlisted in the best roles that are offered during placements. But an average profile of a top institute is sure to have the shortlist for best profiles in other institute.

Secondly, people pursue their masters for research purposes. Well if that is the case then doing your masters from a top institute is definitely beneficial because it has better and more resources and facilities. It will also have the best of professors on the country.

So, in the end I think what matters is how much you are willing to trade off. While top institutes clearly have the edge (they are the most sought after for a reason) it also means that you need to look at your profile. You need to decide considering the amount of work you have put in the preparation and the kind of profile you have what is the best for you. Of course getting into a top institute is only ten percent of the work. What you do inside is totally dependent on you.

To an extent it is true. Generally students do MBA for 2 reasons -

1. Higher pay

2. Change of stream

1. Higher pay

Apart from good reputation of the college, you can see the placement record to make the decision. You may also want to compare it with your current pay, in case you are working.

2. Change of stream

MBA prepares you for leadership positions. If you are looking for a change of stream, a college with ok-ok reputation can be considered.

You may consider executive MBAs (which are relatively easier to get into) if you are already working.
