Alok, to become an Orthopaedic surgeon, you should complete your MBBS along with the 1 year mandatory rotational internship. Now before we take you to the route to study to become an Ortho surgeon, we shall explain the path to study to become a MBBS doctor. You should appear for NEET and complete the 50 months course and also the 1 year mandatory rotational internship. Now NEET is the entrance examination for admission to MBBS and not PG courses like MD/MS. But Orthopaedic Surgeon is a MS course. Now coming back to MBBS, because MBBS has no specialisations, once you appear for NEET and secure a rank, you are allotted a Medical College based on your rank and Category. But in the case of PG courses, there are quite a few specialisations and you get a seat based on your rank in NEET PG and Category. Now this system of admission to MD/MS courses through NEET PG is only for the next 3 years because the National Medical Commission has proposed to scrap NEET PG in favour of NEXT. This will take approximately 3 years. As this is not officially finalised yet, we do not have enough information as how it might be implemented. But the options to choose in your PG will always depend on your score in the qualifying exam and your Category.

Hello,
For becoming an orthopaedic surgeon you have to first do 5.5 years of MBBS in the college where you get admission after neet ug. This is to become a doctor in general. After this you have to write NEXT exam based on which you will get seat for pg. In pg you can do MS orthopaedics which is another 3 year course.
This is the procedure to become an orthopaedic surgeon after 12th standard.
Neet ug is only for MBBS. After mbbs only you can specialise in the field of your choice.
Hope this helps
All the best

Alok Singh you can choose your seat based on your pg entrance exam marks.
also, neet pg is going to be there for the next three years following which the government has proposed the next exam. so if you are joining now, you may have next exam.
also the course is 50 months now not 5.5 years
