I am also a GATE aspirant. As per what I know is, to get a chance to enter into PSU's you need to have a gate rank less than 500. Every year lot of PSU's come to take candidates through gate score. You have to apply for it with if you are eligible i.e.  gate score is enough. And I also heard that there are some cases where PSU's by themselves make a call for you to invite into the interview.
