First of all for the admission in IITs ; nits ; IIITs ; and GFTI you have secure a minimum percentage criteria in 12 .
I.e
75% marks in 12 th for obc and general category student .
And 65% for sc/ St .
Or be in top 20 percentile of your boards.
So if you are in top 20 percentile of your boards ; than yes you can take admission.
And also for Admission in IIT s ; you have to secure a good rank in jee advanced .
Through jee mains you can go in nits ; IIIT sand gftis .

Well, brother firstly it must not be 96%, it would be 96%ile. 

And sadly with your board percentage score, it is impossible for you to admit in NIT/IIIT. 

As, you have not able to qualify for the JoSAA counseling. 

But, don't loose hope. Their are some good colleges available who take students on JEE mains scorecard but with lower percentage required in boards.
