Hello Anusha,
Greetings!

Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh, is one of the most renowned medical colleges in Chandigarh. Every year it conducts different sessions for counselling. The last session was held in January, considered as the fourth round of PGIMER counselling 2019. The counselling takes place in offline mode.

The seat matrix which is generally followed by PGIMER is as follows:

Departments (Number of seats)*

  • Anaesthesia (8)
  • Dermatology (1)
  • Community Medicine (2)
  • Biochemistry (5)
  • ENT (1)
  • Medical Microbiology (10)
  • Internal Medicine (20)
  • Forensic Medicine (4)
  • Nuclear Medicine (2)
  • Ortho Surgery (6)
  • Ophthalmology (3)
  • Obstt & Gynae (6)
  • Pathology (9)
  • Psychiatry (8)
  • Pharmacology (9)
  • Pediatrics (16)
  • Radiodiagnosis (5)
  • General Surgery (18)
  • Radiotherapy (2)
  • Transfusion Medicine (8)

Note: This matrix is tentative in nature and seats may increase or decrease for the July session. Further, the seats are reserved for different categories such as general, SC, ST, sponsored, OBC, PwD etc. It is advised that for accurate information regarding the availability of the seats, only the counselling announcement released by the institute should be taken into consideration.

During the sessions, candidates are called in the order of their merit for PGIMER 2019 counselling. Only those candidates who qualify the exam by securing the minimum required percentile are considered qualified. Further, it is not mandatory that all the candidates who have qualified the exam will be called for the rounds of counselling.

In order to qualify, the minimum percentile required in PGIMER entrance exam should be:

Categories = Minimum Required Percentile

General and Sponsored/Deputed = 55th Percentile

OBC/OPH/ SC/ ST/ Rural Area/ Foreign Nationals = 50th Percentile

Bhutanese Nationals = 45th Percentile

I hope you find this information useful.
In case of any doubts, feel free to raise more queries. We will be happy to assist you.
All the best for your future endeavours!
