Generally phd in microbiology is 3-year program which covers bacteriology, virology, parasitology, immunology, and mycology in depth through lectures, journal clubs, and lab sessions. Candidates who are interested in Pursuing research in emerging areas like genomics, proteomics, biofilms can apply for the course to be eligible for the course Candidates must have b achelor's degree in Microbiology / Biotechnology/ Botany/ Biochemistry/B.Sc., MLT/ Zoology/ or in any other branch of Life Sciences with a minimum of 55% of marks For admission to the Ph. D program in addition with this you should qualify UGC/CSIR- NET exam which is conducted twice a year and some universities may take interview for admission process.

It has lot of potential in creer growth with the average salary of a microbiologist is INR 7.34 LPA in india and typically  Microbiologist's salary in India ranges between INR 46,300 to INR 1,07,000 per month.

  1. Master's degree with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or equivalent grades prescribed by UGC in Clinical Microbiology or Medical microbiology or Microbiology or related subjects.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject with 75% aggregate marks or equivalent grades  prescribed by UGC.
  3. Candidates with CSIR-NET, good GATE score or JRF will be preferred.

The admission process is different from college to college. Some offer direct admission if you have cleared NET, GATE or JRF. While some universities conduct entrance tests for admission.
