Hello Scientific Magician,

Most of the scholarship tests conducted focus on English - Grammar and Reading Comprehensions, Mathematics, Science and Writing. Some of the scholarship tests conducted are:

1. For testing English:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for countries like USA and Canada.
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for countries like UK, Australia and New Zealand.
  • The Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) and The Certificate of Proficience in English (CPE) for countries like UK.

2. Testing of other parameters:

  • SAT - It tests Critical Reading, Math and Writing.
  • ACT- It tests English, Math, Reading and Science with an optional Writing section.
  • GRE - It tests your critical thinking, analytical writing, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning skills.
  • GMAT - It tests in you in the following sections analytical writing assessment, an integrated reasoning section, a quantitative section, and a verbal section.

GRE, GMAT SAT and ACT are valid in countries like USA, New Zealand, Australia and Canada with some universities in UK.

How to prepare?

  • For TOEFL and IELTS: You can improve when you’re not "studying." Listen to English podcasts, read the news in English, and watch English movies. If you have friends who plan to take the TOEFL, speak English with them instead of your native language. And if you are lucky enough to have native English speaking friends, talk with them as often as you can.
  • For SAT and ACT: You need to start reading heavy texts like Native American Speeches, Classic Novels etc., alon with it you need to keep practicing paper after papers, you need to keep you basics in check (grammar) and overall you need to stay focused.

However, for college in Europe you will have to apply thorough UCAS.

Universities and Colleges Admission System (UCAS) :

  • Applicationas for undergraduate school are filed through UCAS.
  • It is resposible for recieving several applications from students and forwarding them to the respective universities.
  • UCAS allows you to apply to five Universities through a common form. 13 is the fees for one course or 24 for multiple courses and applications.

Students seeking admissionto a postgraduate program will have to apply to individual universities using the application form of that particular university. Most universities offer the facility to apply online for a nominal fee.

Documents Required:

  • Attersted copies of marksheets of class 10th, 12th and Bachelor's degree (if applicable)
  • A minimum of two academic reference letters from professors who have taught you.
  • Letters of recomendation from employer/manager of any organisation you have worked with.
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Photocopied score reports of any international examination you might have had taken like SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, IELTS or TOEFL.
  • Printed and attested copies of other certificates/achievements in extracurricular and curricular activities.

I hope this helps!

All the best!

In the beginning it looks like a very difficult task but if good planning and then execute that planning with proper guidance it becomes very easy. So, to help you to make things easier for you we are going to explain the wholeApplication Process to Study Abroad. The entire process of applying for studying abroad can be classified in to following stages:1. When To Start:Ideally the candidates should start the whole process at least 15 months prior to the admissions. E.g. If you are targeting to take admission in fall 2018, you should start your preparation in the beginning of 2017.2. Selecting Universities:The next step is to select the right university for the course you want pursue. For that firstly, list down the name of the universities with their ranks and GRE scores requirement which offer the program you want to go for. This should be your first step of the MS applications. You should be doing it at least 15 months before the admission as explained above. There are intakes for US universities i.e. Fall, Spring and Summer but very few universities take Spring or Summer Intakes. Fall is the most common term intake. It is preferable to go for fall intake if you need financial assistance.3. Follow Deadlines:It is imperative to follow the deadlines. Once you have choose the universities of your interest, check the deadlines for the course you want to go for. The deadline for all programs is usually not same and you have to check the deadlines from the individual department’s websites. E.g. application for fall generally start from the month of September and ends by December or January.4. Check Eligibility:You have to check the eligibility requirements for the program you want to go for beforehand only. Different programs will have different requirements and you have to check from the official website about those requirements. We are listing here some of the general eligibility criteria which a candidate should fulfill before applying for the MS in USA.· 16 years of education: It is mandatory in most of the US universities to have minimum of 16 years of education before you apply for the Masters in USA. So, you need to complete at least 4 years of education after class 12th. There are some universities which accept 3 year undergraduate degrees. Also, students can get their academic transcripts evaluated by university or some private organizations like WES which can term your degree equivalent to that of a US four year degree.· Mandatory Tests: You will be required to appear for the certain standardized tests in order to apply for admission to MS in USA. So, you have to take GMAT/GRE/TOEFL/IELTS/MCAT/LSAT and others as per the program’s requirement you want to go for.5. Appear for The Required Exams:As mentioned above, you will be required to appear for some of the mandatory entry level tests as required by the program you want to appear for.

Hello,

I would like to tell you that currently, most Unis have their complete application processes online to make things quick and easy for international students. The actual application process will require you to register on the University's website and complete a step-wise application process. If you are sure about which programme you want to apply and have scanned copies of all relevant transcripts; then at the most, it will take you about 30 minutes to complete the application process.

You should be looking at applying to a few schools, but not too many since you don’t want all your hopes hanging on to just one.

The application processing fee for universities range from US$50 to US$100. So if you are going to apply to ten different universities then you would end up spending between US$500 to US$1,000 just on applications alone. A handful of universities require you to still submit applications and documents by regular mail. So that's additional money to be paid to DHL or FedEX to send your application forms to the University. Doesn’t seem to be a good idea anymore to apply to a whole bunch of universities, right? Good, then we are on the same page. Here’s how we think you should split up your applications:

Apply to a Uni that has slightly higher grades and scores for entry requirements, than what you have gotten. Apply only if you feel, after reading the admissions details, that there is hope of you landing an admit — even if it’s a bit of a long shot.

Apply to a Uni that has the kind of expected scores and grades that are in line with the ones that you have achieved.

Apply to a Uni that is sure to take you in, as their expected grades or scores are way below your achieved ones. This is your back-up option.

Don’t go applying away because your friends picked it — make sure it is where you want to be for the next two or three years!

Search the website for their online application for international students. Unis generally have a portion of their website dedicated just to international students. Before you get started with your application form, make sure you read their international entry requirements section clearly. It is best for you to know all that is expected of you, than be caught later in surprise and run around in haste to get it done.

Bear in mind that a few colleges (probably only a handful) still follow the paper-based application. In that case, take a print out of the PDF form to fill it out. For such Unis that are behind the race and have paper-based applications, you might need a bit more cushion time for all the documents that you need to be sending by post. This will be a more time-consuming process than the online version, needless to say, so start out even more in advance as required.

You will be required to make a non-refundable (in most cases) application fee of somewhere between USD 40-60. This fee will vary based on the Uni but we are giving you our guesstimate to keep you prepared. Some Unis may charge you less for online applications than they do for their paper-based ones. If you need details on online payment, look for the payment methods link on the Unis website — this is sure to take you through the procedure in detail.

You will be asked for recent test scores of mostly the TOEFL, SAT, GRE, GMAT, and the IELTS.

And the expected scores for your tests should look something like:

550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based) for the TOEFL

A general score of above 2,000 works for the SAT

Roughly 149-153 (in your verbal), 158-160 (for your math), and 3.8 to 4.0 for the GRE

A score ranging from 550 and above for the GMAT

A band of around 5.5 – 7.0 will do for your IELTS

Again, these will vary from institution to institution so run a check on the Uni site to know the exact requirement.

Now, time for the most important part of your application — your SOP or Statement Of Purpose essay. This should basically cover reasons for you choosing the specific program at the Uni, long term and short term goals, personal background and any internship experiences. Stick to the length limits and make it as strong as possible using engaging language and brief stories. Ensure you personalize your SOP to make it stand out, as Unis will be receiving a ton of these and an average SOP will just not cut it. Liven up a moment in a professor’s life, who may be up to his ears with applications. Along with your SOP, you can submit a resume highlighting any work experiences you have had.

Once you have taken care of this, you will have to approach a few professors for your Letter of Recommendation (LoR). This letter should talk about your achievements and highlight your academic and overall attitude to prove that you have college potential.

The Uni will require you to submit ‘Proof of Financial Ability’ that will cover your living expenses and educational costs (for your first period of study in most cases) while in the country. A sponsor is generally required to provide this guarantee to the Uni on your behalf. Make sure you have the amount required by the Uni in your account. Many a times the Uni won’t even process your application without this, so don’t take this lightly.

The Uni might want to interview you — this is usually done over Skype. Once you know the date and timing, start preparing for it.

Generally, the Uni will respond to your application from anywhere within three to eight weeks. So your last and final step, once you receive the letter of acceptance is to respond back within the given time period and confirm your place in the Uni. Once accepted, the Uni will offer the required approval documents for applying for

Dear Student,

  1. First, you should decide that which course you want to take admission in and then Explore universities. Consider the location, cost, academic programs and majors, and campus life so that you can narrow the list of universities to which you want to apply. Research for the admission requirements. Even knowing the most basic of phrases in the local language can make a world of difference in overcoming those first few days of adjustment. Enroll in classes, ask fluent friends for help. You must have a valid passport to travel and study abroad. Take some time to better familiarize yourself with your study abroad country. By knowing even briefly your soon-to-be home's culture, history, geography, economy, government. While studying abroad you will definitely encounter people with different concepts of time and personal space. Be ready to learn and observe these differences without being judgmental. It will be these very same differences that will undoubtedly enrich your understanding of your own culture.
