The JEE main result for the january session is prepared based on the JEE main normalised score i,e percentile which is also referred as NTA score
The percentile score tells you how you have performed compared to all the students appeared for that exam
the formula to calculate the percentile is as follows
Percentile Score of a Candidate =100 x (Number of candidates who secured a raw score (or actual score) EQUAL TO OR LESS than the candidate) / (Total number of candidates who appeared in that session).
It eliminates the inconsistency caused by the variation of difficulty level among all the shifts.
This system was adopted after NTA came into picture before NTA, CBSE used to conduct the JEE mains exam and there was marks system.

The result of JEE Main 2020 January exam has been released result is available in the form of score card containing four NTA scores in the form of percentile for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and total score. NTA score mentioned in the result is not the score out of 300.
