A student can give upto 3 attempts in JEE main examination. However, it might be stretched to 4 attempts but the decision is not yet final.

There are total 3 attempts for JEE mains in last attempt you can't even sit for JEE advanced even if you have cleared cut-off for JEE mains.

As per the guidelines issued by NTA, JEE Main will be conducted twice per year where best of the two would be considered for the rank, therefore, you will get 2 attempts in one year. However, no guidelines have been issued regarding the total number of attempts and earlier three attempts were given so let's assume that total of 6 attempts will be given at the rate of 2 attempts per year.

A students can give jee mains only 3 times and jee advance 2 times.

There is another way to appear in jee mains after 3 attempts that is to write the 10th exam again then pass 12th then join jee but i think that will not be worth.
