Any candidate can apply for jee main for three consecutive years. However he has also the choice to appear in any of the two  or both the exams conducted in months of January and April in any acedemic year.

According to NTA, a student can attempt JEE Main exam twice in a particular academic session. However, as per eligibility criteria & the age for appearing in JEE Mains 2019, a candidate can appear in the JEE Exam for consecutive years.

In a year, a student can attempt TWICE for the JEE mains exam, one conducted in the month of January and other one conducted in the month of April. The maximum number of attempts a student can make for JEE mains is six in three consecutive years considering the above information.
