The duration of any internship is dependent on a number of factors such as:

• Industry of work.
• Expertise of intern.
• Role or responsibility of intern.
• Duration of need for the employer, etc.

Thus it is entirely dependent upon your choice of internship for example there are internships of almost a year or more to a month long internship. Moreover you can also be terminated if your performance is not sufficient enough or maybe your internship duration and pay is increased if you work exceptionally.

Coming to the next part of the question, you are supposed to get a job right after your internship if your internship had a job offer associated with it and also you would have an edge in the industry over others who have no internships to their credit in terms of employment.
