Jee exam is very competitive exam. For jee preparation 6 hours sleep is sufficient enough. Don't be sleep deprived otherwise your mind will not stay active. You should complete the course maximum within 8 months and then spare all the time in mock tests, solving previous years papers & analysing your performance.

It depends on how much time you have.If you are beginning you preparation and aiming to prepare for JEE next year then 6-8 hours of study in very important in starting days and you should increase it gradually to 12-14 hours in the last few months.Everybody is different and when it comes to studying, it totally depends on your habits and capabilities because some students can comfortably sit for 14 hours too.
So, it depends on you but you must be disciplined and constant everyday and as far as sleeping is concerned, then you must take 7-8 hours of sleep everyday and rest hours are for you to study and its you who have to decide how much hours you can utilize. Your aim should be to complete the syllabus effectively and efficiently.
