As per National Testing Agency, a candidate can appear in JEE examination for three consecutive years after completing their class 12 examination. Further, JEE Mains is conducted twice a year by the statutory body. So, you can appear for three consecutive years.

Jee Main is conducted twice a year- one in January and another one session in April (September this time due to pandemic), so you can appear twice a year in Jee Main. A candidate can appear 6 times ( 2 times in each three consecutive years) in Jee Main. If you have passed 12th in 2020, you can appear Jee Main both Sessions in 2020, can appear in both sessions of 2021 and 2022 - Once in January and another attempt in April. So it becomes 6. So your total attempt will be six, 2 attempts each year.
