Of the two exams score, only one exam score which is best is considered. So, you can apply twice for JEE mains within a year. The JEE Main will be held twice in a year i.e. in January (from 6th - 20th Jan) and in April (from 6th - 20th April). Both these will be counted as only one attempt.
So. accordingly you will be able to take JEE Main 6 times in 3 years (depending on the year you are applying).

You can apply Thrice, once with your 12th boards, and two more times in next 2 consecutive years.

You can attempt twice a year,in January and April. Since you can give JEE 3 times so that makes it to 6 attempts all together.
