Hello! Hope you are doing well. There are many people who have doubts regarding this. From 2019, students are given two chances to appear for the JEE mains exam. Of the two exams score, only one exam score which is best is considered. So, you can apply twice for JEE mains within a year. You can apply Thrice, once with your 12th boards, and two more times in next 2 consecutive years.

You can attempt twice a year,in January and April. Since you can give JEE 3 times so that makes it to 6 attempts all together.
