Hey there
In exams like JEE mains marks is not the basis for taking admission in nits but rank is. JEE mains is an exam whose Cutoff changes unpredictably every year and from recent years it's pattern is also changing so it's the ranking on which admissions are done. For nits atleast a candidate should have scored a rank less than 30000 to get a nit but at this rank he/she will not get good branch so for good nit and a desired branch one should target a rank within 10000 or 15000 atleast.
