1. The number of students appearing for the entrance examination.

2. The number of seats available per department in that institute.

3. The difficulty of the entrance examination, etc.

But it has been observed that the opening and closing ranks of an institute remain almost the same for consecutive years until and unless the number of seats has been increased or decreased or if there is any instruction laid out by the examining and counseling authorities.
