How much percentile is essential to get a good NIT for chemical engineering?? I scored 84 percentile in JEE mains January

Hello Arushi

To get admission in any of the top NITs, the minimum required percentile score should be 98+%ile
However, based on your percentile, there are nearly no chances for to get into NIT. You can get any private institute or college under this score. But if you have a target of NIT- that too under your choice branch-then you should start preparing for the second attempt of JEE Mains-April. As the best of your 2 scores will be selected for the Admission process.

But mam I want chemical so maybe 95 percentile should be a deadline I guess

Dear, the cutoff range can't be predicted- as the second attempt of JEE Mains exam is still to be conducted in April. The number of candidates- will increase and the best of the 2 scores will be selected for those who've appeared in Jan + in April (will appear). Because of these factors the cutoff may raise  for different branches. Hope you're getting my point.! So there are 50-50 chances for your admission. You may get but not in the top NITs or even you may not if the number of candidates increase for the April session.

U have really a very good percentile. U can get into top NITs infact and chemical engineering is a very good choice to opt for.
