If you are aspiring top of the NITs your Rank must be less than 15000 if you belong to unreserved category. To get top IIITs also like IIIT Hyderabad , IIITDelhi, IIIT Bangalore, IIITAllahabad you need to score minimum 98 percentile. That means minimum 12k to 15k rank is required. IIIT Hyderabad and IIIT Bangalore used to announce cutoffs in terms of marks scored. Those are roughly translated to ranks based on a determined data to calculate percentile.

If you are from other state quota, then you have to secure at least above the qualifying cutoff of jee mains form general category.
So at least secure above 91 percentile in jee mains to get a seat in gftis. For nits your percentile should be about 95 or for iiits too.
